Learn to carve stone this Summer! If you have seen the High Crosses in Ireland, or loved stone work on older buildings,  you’ve seen relief carving in stone. During the classes, we’ll take manageable scraps of limestone and carve an initial, a knot, or perhaps an animal motif and in the process learn something of one of civiliation’s oldest expressions.  Your finished relief carving will look wonderful in your Summer garden!  Included will be plenty of stone lore, tips for scrounging up materials, and techniques including polishing and finishing. Stonecarving is one of humanity’s most intrinsically satisfying arts, a truly timeless skill to be acquired with pride. You’re bound to take a real sense of accomplishment away from one of these classes.  Students should be able to finish a sample and a larger carving in a one week class, or two small carvings in one weekend. Soapstone carving in the round is also available at some of the classes.

Classes are scheduled in a variety of settings around the Northeast US and in Ontario. Some are in spectacular locations as part of lively summer "weeks" packed with wonderful activities. Please see the "Classes" list for more information and how to register.
