Course Description:

This class explores the compositional aspects of art through appreciation, production, and critique.  We will investigate a variety of media while studying the art elements, design principles, and art history.

Needed Materials:

You will need to get a 2 pocket folder and pack of  #2 pencils  to keep in your drawer.  Everything else will be provided with fee money.

Requirements:

Attendance—If absent, it is your responsibility to find out what was missed.  You will be required to take your work home or make arrangements with me to stay after school.  You will be given 2 days to make up the missed work.

Art Fees—The fee for Intro to Art is $60.00 and must be paid within the first 2 weeks of school.  If this deadline can not be met, an alternative payment plan may be arranged by calling the office.  Any donated supplies such as magazines, containers, craft items, etc. are much appreciated!

Classroom Rules:

Act Responsibly, Safety First—Any misuse of materials or tools will result in an automatic detention.

Respect Yourself and Others—The Golden Rule!

Clean Up After Yourself—Tables, sinks, counters, supply cabinets, and any other area YOU USE must be cleaned up BY YOU!  Each table will be given a week to monitor areas to make sure they are clean before leaving.   Points will be deducted from your weekly participation grade if cleaning responsibilities are not met.

Use Time Wisely—Each project can be completed within the amount of time determined by me if you utilize time properly.  I realize that students work at different paces; therefore, students may be required to take work home or stay after school to complete projects.  Due dates are flexible depending on circumstances.  If you feel you will not be able to complete work on time, please discuss with me before the due date.

Participate—Be prepared to participate in class discussions and critiques.  Class is much more interesting when everyone participates!  Points will be deducted from your weekly participation grade if you do not participate!

Grading Policy:

You will earn credit for this class through the evaluation of major art projects (about every 3 weeks), class performance and participation, written response, quizzes/tests, homework, and a final project/presentation.

For major projects, you will be evaluated with a rubric that follows the guidelines of the criteria given at the start of the project.  You will self-evaluate, then be given a grade.  I grade mainly on following directions, craftsmanship, and EFFORT!  Most are worth 100 points and take about 3 weeks to complete.

5 points per day are earned for attendance, participation, effort, and behavior.

Homework—Will consist of a 30 minute sketch in your home-made sketchbook.  You must include labeling and a reflection paragraph to receive credit.  These assignments allow for “free” drawing experiences, will be worth 50 points, and will be assigned occasionally throughout the year.  Homework assignments will be posted on Progressbook.   In addition, any project not completed in the allotted class time must be finished as homework within 1 week.

Contact Me:

The best way to contact me is though e-mail.  (larbes_c@fairfieldcityschools.com)

I will check e-mail at least once a day and reply within one day.  I travel between the FreshmanSchooland the High School, so I do not recommend trying to reach me by phone.

I am looking forward to a great, creative year!
