Silver and gold foils need to be added to a pre-existing layer of enamel.

Foils can be cut into shapes by layering between two pieces of paper - scissors must be VERY sharp!

Foils can be put at different levels in your layers to emphasise depth.

Large pieces of foil should be pierced to ensure no gasses are trapped under them and that they don't migrate during firing. This can be effectively done by pressing the large piece over sandpaper. Sometimes it is adviseable to pierce smaller pieces also - and this can be done with s mall sharp needle

Firings must be kept low as if the silver sinks down to touch the copper it will form a eutectic alloy and disappear - push the enamel in front of it

Subsequent layers must also be carefully fired to prevent the silver from melting
