Champleve is a technique that involves making depressions in the metal and inlaying the enamel

 

Champ means field, leve means raised becasue the design is created with a raised field of metal.

 

The metal can be engraved away, or etched away. It is also possible to fuse a pierced piece onto a plat piece to create depressed areas.

 

This class will teach ferric chloride etching
