Champleve is a technique that involves making depressions in the metal and inlaying the enamel
Champ means field, leve means raised becasue the design is created with a raised field of metal.
The metal can be engraved away, or etched away. It is also possible to fuse a pierced piece onto a plat piece to create depressed areas.
