Bio

 

Linda Hawes Clever, MD is a specialist in Internal Medicine, founding chair of the Department of Occupational Health at California Pacific Medical Center, member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences, Clinical Professor of Medicine at UCSF, and Associate Dean for Alumni Affairs at the Stanford University School of Medicine.  She is also founder and president of RENEW, a special project of the Institute for Health & Healing, at California Pacific Medical Center. RENEW is aimed at helping devoted people maintain and regain enthusiasm, effectiveness, and purpose as they navigate the challenges of work and life.
 
Dr. Clever received both undergraduate and medical degrees from Stanford University.  She served on the Stanford University Board of Trustees for 14 years, was editor of the Western Journal of Medicine; and served as the first woman governor in the American College of Physicians. Her husband, Jamie, is an internist who is a member of the Marin Healthcare District Board.  Their daughter, Sarah, is on the faculty at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Dr. Clever likes good walks, good conversations, and good cookies. Her new book is entitled, The Fatigue Prescription, Four Steps to Renewing Your Energy, Health and Life.

Dr. Clever provides a useful guide to renewing, redirecting, and refreshing yourself. She includes self-assessment guides, and advice on how to

manage competing demands that diminish your creativity and sap your energy. She shows how taking care of yourself is not selfish; it is self-preservation so you can do what you need to do and want to do.
