Moving toward Optimum Health:  How Dance Therapy Helps Move Us towards Transformation

"Igniting our life force, dance therapy moves us towards harmony with our soul's essence, offering enlightenment and unity with nature and humanity".

This quote, from the Marian Chace Foundation Bookmark Project of the American Dance Therapy Association by Dr. Leventhal,  summarizes the power that dance has when applied in a healing situation. Dance Therapy has been used with numerous clinical populations (ie. Alzheimer, Autistic Children, Anxiety Disorders and Depression, the Frail Elderly, Parkinsons), as well as what we refer to as the normal, urban, functioning neurotic.

Dance Therapy offers us the opportunity to experience dance movement outside of a social dance, formal dance or exercise focused realm, where participants have the chance to find release, centering, insight, and the working through of personal issues in a non-threatening, non-competitive atmosphere. Dance movement therapy goes beyond the spoken word allowing us to have a four- dimensional, fully integrative experience in which there can become an alignment of body, mind, spirit and soul.In this special Careerwell interview, Marth Leventhal discusses how dance therapy helps us move toward transformation.
