Applying CIP and RIASEC Theories: A Cost Effective Approach to Career Counseling and Services

In today’s society, ongoing career development and career choices are a way of life. Individuals are making career transitions on a regular basis. Drs. Lenz and Reardon will discuss how a university-based career center works with adolescents, college students, and community adults in making career choices. The presenters will incorporate information from John Holland’s RIASEC theory and Cognitive Information Processing (CIP) theory, and share practical ideas and cost-efficient strategies and interventions for working with a diverse array of clients.


Bios:
Dr. Lenz is Interim Director of the Florida State University Career Center, Co-Director of FSU’s Center for the Study of Technology in Counseling and Career Development, and an Assistant-In Professor in the FSU College of Education’s Department of Educational Psychology & Learning Systems. She is Past President of the National Career Development Association and an NCDA Fellow.

 

Robert Reardon held full-time counseling and teaching positions at Florida State University from 1966 to 2007. He is now Professor Emeritus in the Department of Educational Psychology and Learning Systems and Senior Research Associate in FSU’s Career Center. He received the Eminent Career Award from the National Career Development Association in 2003.
