Dedication

I dedicate the monograph to my mother, who, as she moves into her 90s, inspires me every day by taking exercise classes, doing Tai Chi, eating moderately (except on her 90th b-day), reading one or two books a week, walking a mile a day, doing crossword puzzles, going to concerts and theater performances, keeping me informed of national and international news, and reminding me of the relatives’ birthdays.

Most importantly, she inspires me because she is content where she is at this time in her life.  I know it’s not possible for every older person to reach that state of self-acceptance, but she certainly is a good role model for me and for others who know her.
