Bio
Fine art photographer, teacher and art historian, Joan's style has been described as decisive moment meets Jan Vermeer. After working for 12+ years as Assistant Curator of Photographs at the J. Paul Getty Museum, since 1996 she's been winning awards both as a photographer and as a full-time photo teacher in LA's inner city. At Bell High –in a Latino community in South LA – she's pioneering new programs in Digital Imaging and Advanced Placement Photography with about 200 students a day. She’s on the Board of Directors for the Society of Photographic Education’s (SPE) West Region and was the Program Coordinator for their ’06 Conflict Conference.
NBCT (National Board Certified Teacher)
Mrs. Dooley received her National Board Teacher Certification in 2002. Her area of specialization: Art/Early Adolescence through Young Adulthood. NBCT video:
