On October 7, more than thirty Hope High School students from all three communities attended the “Junkyard Ghost Revival” at Brown University. The Revival featured four published, award-winning slam poets: Derrick Brown, Anis Mojgani, Cristin O’Keefe Aptowicz, and Buddy Wakefield. The students went out for pizza together and then attended the performance, where they had a chance to chat with the performers and other local slam poets. The night was a huge hit and incredibly inspiring to all those that attended.
I was RIDICULOUSLY proud to spend the night with such cool Hope students. Check out the "helpful and inspirational links" section for links to the slam poets who performed.

Meeting at Hope

Stopped at Antonio's for pizza
(Some lady stopped me later in the week to tell me how awesome we were--she saw us at Antonio's and was impressed with the Hope crew.)

The line outside was HUGE, and we were right up front.
Hope represents.

The Junkyard Boys

Buddy Wakefield . . . who always asks the same question
when he goes to someone's house: where are the toys?

Derrick Brown thinks hard.

Cristin O'Keefe Aptowicz
Two words: Crack Squirrels

Anis Mojgani tries to figure out how to be a man

HOODIES UP! It's time for some rap.

Break dancing. "I like candy! I like soup! I like pizza! How 'bout you?"

Cristin gets so into it, her hand starts to disappear.

Anis plays the piano. And blow your mind.

Hope posse, on stage.
(Except for Carlos, who was in the bathroom.)
