What do you do after school?
There are tons of cool things to do at Hope once the final bell rings. Playing a sport or joining a club are great ways to meet people, have fun, learn skills, and make school more enjoyable. Visit the H20 office for more info on different types of clubs and talk to your gym teacher about joining sports. Here are some of my favorite activities:
Monday:
Esteem: A female support group. Esteem is a chance to hang out with awesome girls, play games, do cool projects, and talk about the stuff that really matters to you. Ms. Toro runs it with a bunch of other really cool teachers. Their first meeting was last week, and it sounded like everyone had a great time. (I'm in the room next door, and there was a whole lot of laughing happening.) Room 30A. 3:00-4:00
Graffiti Support Group: I don't know too much about this except that it is about graffiti. Visit Ms. Travis's room for more info. Room 001. 3:00-3:30
Tuesday:
RISD @ Hope: We have an awesome partnership with the Rhode Island School of Design-the premiere art school in the country. Every Tuesday is a chance to further your art skills and learn more about the art world. There is anew visiting artist every quarter that works with the group as well as students from RISD that help support the club. The first quarter, our visiting artist is Michael Townsend, who specializes in tape art. (And . . . he is also the guy who "lived in the mall.") The sponsor, Ms. Weigand, is super cool as well. Room 003. 3:00-5:00
Wednesday:
Yearbook: Mrs. Belanger runs the yearbook during her advisory. It is a great opportunity to develop your writing skills as well as create an amazing item that you can cherish your whole life. If you are interested in helping out, let her know as well as your advisor.
Math League: Math League is a way to develop your math skills and compete against other schools. The group meets with Ms. Florio and Ms. Metts in room 15 right after school. What a great way to spend an early dismissal!
Thursday:
Rise and Read: Every Thursday morning, at 7:30 am, a great group of students and teachers get together to talk about great books. This quarter, we are reading 13 Reasons and Twilight. It is very laid back and a lot of fun. The whole point is just to enjoy reading. At the end of every quarter, we have a final meeting at Borders at Providence Place Mall. They sometimes give us treats, and we ALWAYS have a good time. Library. 7:30 am.
Newspaper: Like to write articles? Draw? Take pictures? Have an opinion? Join Hope's newspaper, The Poseidon. Meetings are after school, in room 202 with Ms. Marshall.
RISD Project Open Door: If you are serious about art and creating a portfolio, consider joining this program that is held AT RISD. The fall session is already full, but in January, talk to your art teacher, and she will give you an application for the program. It is a very impressive program to have on your resume-especially if you are considering going to art school.

Friday:
Ink: Ink is Hope's art and literary magazine. We publish the best poetry, short stories, drama, and art from Hope. We also have a website for theatre dance, and other writing and art. The first half of the year we will be working on our own creative writing-right now, we are looking at humor writing. The second half of the year will focus on publishing our second edition of INK. Come join us whenever you are free. We always have a good time-especially because Ms. Thoma is the advisor. In Room 003. 3:00-4:00
