Megan Thoma lives in Providence, RI where she writes and teaches English at Hope Arts High School.  Before moving to Providence, she lived in Fairfax, Virginia and worked at the National Energy Education Development Project, a non-profit dedicated to energy education. 

 
Originally from Illinois, she attended Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, IL where she majored in English-Writing and Secondary Education with a concentration in Art.  She was editor of the literary magazine Tributaries for two years and increased the publication cycle from annual to semi-annual.  She founded Tongue & Ink--a conference bringing together writing students from around the Midwest.  Megan also created "ink", a collaborative, experimental theatre experience tha focused on writing and the writing process through readings, performance, dance, art, music, photography, movies, digital media, etc..  "ink" was produced annually for three years, featuring a new cast and new pieces of writing each year.  She was a DJ for four years on WESN 88.1, radio to the far left in Bloomington, and eventually served as the program director for a year and a half. 
 
Ms. Thoma has won the Babbitt’s Prize for Short Fiction, and her writing has appeared on McSweeney’s Internet Tendency.  She continues to dabble in photography, dance, and all the visual arts.
