Automata
Automata sculpture is considered a kinetic device that is hand-cranked to show some kind of animated scene. They are considered to be closely related to mechanical toys and whirligigs.
Automata Sculpture I found interesting

Tom Haney creates these whimsical moving sculptures plus his works shows lots of imagination. His pieces speak for themselves from the title. His messages are hidden inside his figures forcing one to perform some sort of action which involving cranking it.

I found her work interesting because she has incorporated recycled material to create her automata sculpture.
My Automata art work
I began my automata first with a object which were two hands. My first thought was to make them hold an object but then the thought came to me that maybe I could make them clap. The idea that it takes to hands to clap came to mind. Adding to that thought I am going to paint one hand white and one hand black giving it more to think about.
My next thought was how to incorporate these hands into my box and make them move back and fourth. The thought seemed simply but the action to perform this movement became complicated.
Creating a crank system for my automata became a challenge but after five attempts I finally got one hand to work.
